Spelling … a lost skill?

April 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but I find it very discouraging when I find spelling mistakes on supposedly “professional” web pages. I am forgiving of the varying spelling conventions within the English language (for example: the Canadian spelling of “colour” and the slightly different American spelling of “color”), but obvious mistakes irritate me. Simplifications and mistakes in IM or FB messages are one thing, but spelling mistakes on business sites are, to me, a sign of how the business is managed … poorly. Just my 2 cents ….

SLA and Earth Day

April 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Congratulations to SLA for creating a green champion award in honour of earth day….  All libraries I have worked in do all the same  small things: save binders/duotangs, used scrap paper as notepaper, and do their best to make recycling easy.  I am curious to see what other SLA libraries are doing, but we will have to wait until January 2009 to find out who the most amazing greenies are.
